Agatti Aerodrome on Agatti Island is currently the only airport in
Lakshadweep. While approaching the Agatti island the viewer gets an amazing areal view of the only airstrip from the top. There are regular flights that fly from Cochin to Agatti and the approximate time taken is about one hour thirty minutes. The flights from Agatti to the same are operational only six days a week except Sundays. The
Indian Airlines, the state-owned carrier, serves Agatti and flies to Kochi on the mainland. Also, from April 2007, a private carrier, Kingfisher Airlines, has commenced flights to and from
Agatti. The Kingfisher airline links the island with Bangalore via the Cochin International Airport. The onward flights are available from Cochin Airport to all the major cities of India and to selected cities of foreign countries. Helicopter service are available from Agatti airport, the only Lakshadweep airport to Bangaram Island Resort during the monsoon season and to Kavaratti island all through the year. |
