Much
of Kerala's exotic appeal is centered
in the highland area of the western
Ghats. Rising to an average height
of 1520 m, the tropical forests
of the Ghats house rich flora and
fauna. Not to speak of expansive,
loamy plantations of tea, coffee,
rubber and fragrant cardamon.

Munnar
1600
m above sea level, Munnar is a nature
lover's paradise was the summer
resort of the British Government
in South India. Sprawling tea plantations,
picture-book towns, winding lanes
and holiday facilities make this
a popular hill station. Among the
exotic flora found in the forests
and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji.
This flower which bathes the hills
in blue once every twelve years,
will bloom next in 2006 AD. Munnar
also has the highest peak in South
India - Anamudi, which towers over
2695m. Anamudi is an ideal fro trekking.
Accessibility : 130 km (4 1/2 hours)
from Kochi.

Peermede
Situated
915 m above sea level, Peermede
is on the way to the Periyar Wildlife
Sanctuary. This pleasant hill station
was once the summer retreat of the
Maharajas of Travancore. Here you
will find sprawling tea, coffee,
cardamon, rubber and eucalyptus
plantations side by side with natural
grasslands and pine forests. Accessibility
: 75 km(2 1/2 hours ) from Kottayam.
Vythiri
Tucked
away at the north eastern tip of
Kerala, this quaint little hill
station about 1300 m above sea level
is reowned for its coffee, tea,
cardamon, pepper and rubber plantation.
Mist capped mountains and breathtaking
scenery dominate othe rtourist attractions.
Accessibility : 100 km(5 hours )
from Kozhikode.

Ponmudi
An
idylllic hill resort with
narrow, winding pathways
and cool, green, wooded
environs, Ponmudi islocated
915 metres above sea level.
Well known for its beautiful
mountain flowers, exotic
butterflies, small rivulets
and springs, this hill station
alos has excellent trekking
trails. Accessibility :
61 km (2 1/2 hour) from
Thiruvananthapuram.

Devikulam
This
idyllic hill station with its velvet
lawns, exotic flora and fauna and
the cool mountain air offers a rare
experience to visitors. The sita
Devi Lake with its mineral water
springs picturesque surroundings
is a good picnic spot. The lake
is also ideal for trout fishing.
Accessibility : 15 km from Munnar.
Nelliyampathy
This
fascinating hill station is at a
height of 467 to 1572 m above sea
level. At least 10 harpin bends
have to be negotiated on the ghat
road that passes through the breathtaking
evergreen forest of the Sahya Ranges.
Seethakundu at Nelliyampathy offers
a panoramic view of about one thitd
the area of Palakkad district. Accessibility:
52 km from Nemmara.
Wagamon
Situated
at an elevation of 1100 m above
sea level, this hill station is
a trekker's delight. Wagamon is
surrounded by beautiful meadows,
valleys and tea gardens. Accessibility:
65 km from Idukki Town.

Lakkidi
Lakkidi,
the gateway of Wayanad, is situated
700 m above mean sea level, at the
crest of the Thamarasseri Ghat pass.
Lofty peaks, gurgling streams and
luxuriant forests add magic to the
journey up the winding roads to
this hill station. Accessibility:
55 km east of Kzhikode/ 5 km south
of Vythiri.
